Lonza AG is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Scientist to join our R&D department. This role is pivotal in developing automated cell culture platforms using deep well plates (DWP), ambr15, and ambr250 systems. Key responsibilities:
- Design, optimize, and implement small-scale cell culture platforms to support various research and development projects.
- Operate and maintain liquid handling systems and automation equipment to ensure efficient and accurate experimental workflows.
- Lead and participate in collaborative research projects, encouraging positive relationships and driving innovation.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to build and implement machine learning models in current cell culture platforms.
- Support and train junior scientists in automation methodologies.
- Engage in routine mammalian cell culture workflows involving media preparation, revival, and subculture as required for an experiment.
- Generate experimental results and review respective scientific documentation.
- Ensure lab procedures are adhered to and support safety assessments.
- Perform other lab duties as assigned.
Key requirements:
- MSc or MEng in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioprocess, Biochemistry, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience with liquid handlers and automation systems; ambr250 experience desirable.
- Strong understanding of cell culture process development.
- Advanced background in mammalian cell culture.
- Proficient in Python for automation.
- Familiarity with machine learning modeling techniques is a plus.
- Proven ability to collaborate and compete in a fast-paced research environment.
